Sessions & Events

                                           Smart urban mobility & Cities of the Future:
                               Mayors Roundtable

                                         Palazzo S. Giorgio, Sala delle Compere (tbc), 10 a.m. – 12:30 a.m.

CLOSED DOOR EVENT

The Commission is supporting jobs and growth through the European Investment Plan initiative and energy security and decarbonisation through the Energy Union. Smart urban mobility is a cornerstone. It is a key Commission priority to support policies and investments leading to take up and replication of innovative solutions at large scale.

Cities’ action is of major relevance in this context. This roundtable provides a platform to:

  • Exchange information on cities innovative action and their best practice;
  • discuss how to best scale relevant innovations that meet city needs and the role and potentials for collaboration among cities;
  • explore how cities could benefit from a European market place for smart city actions, which is being developed eg. by the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities;
  • discuss opportunities for support from European level, including different funds and financing instruments, barriers and needs (Horizon 2020, Connecting Europe Facility, European Structural Investment Funds, European Fund for Strategic Investment)

The roundtable will bring together representatives of up to 20 cities from the broader Mediterranean context and the European Commission.

Over lunch, there will be presentations by Piaggio electric scooters on smart innovative mobility concepts.

After lunch, there is an opportunity for mayor’s roundtable participants to visit an exhibition of hybrid and electric vehicles (scooters, cars, buses, from different manufaturers), which is organised by the city of Genoa.

The mayors roundtable will take place in the venue of the Genoa port authority (http://servizi.porto.genova.it/en/home.aspx). Participation is by invitation only.

After lunch participants of the roundtable are invited to participate in an exhibition of clean vehicles outside the Palazzo San Giorgio, including photo opportunity. It is currently foreseen from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Alternatively, cities representatives are invited to participate in the outreach event of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart cities and Communities (which will take place) where we expect up to 50 participants to discuss opportunities for joining up actions in key areas such as smart electro-mobility and mobility services as well as their financing solutions and business models.
